Quality Points
Overview
This article covers the usage of Quality Points, which is supported in RIO Education SIS from v3.10 onwards.
Use case
Quality Points represent the total points contributed by the Courses that students completed, to their GPA.
The general formula is: Quality Points = Credit Hours x Grade.
For example, a student has completed a Course worth 10 credit hours, with a Grade Point of 6. The Quality Points is thus 60.
In RIO Education, this is represented inside the Course Connection (a record of the student's enrollment to said Course).
The 'Credits Earned' field denotes the credit hours for the Course, while the 'Grade Points' field is automatically calculated based on the Grade Settings defined.
- For example, a grade score of 80 correlates to a Grade Point of 6 (see here for more details).
The Quality Points for the Course is then automatically calculated based on the formula: Quality Points = Credits Earned x Grade Points.
Within that same semester (Term), the student has completed four Courses in total.
The total Quality Points achieved for that Term (from all the individual Courses) will be reflected in the student's PE Pathway.
The student has completed the Program. In the Program Enrollment record, this will be automatically calculated as the total Quality Points.
