Steps to complete the challenge
The RIO Undergraduate Program is a liberal arts program.
Students will first study the core courses, before they choose a Major + Minor to specialise in.
A Major carries 48 credits, while a Minor carries 24 credits.

The Major and Minor will contribute 72 credits to the Undergraduate Program.
All the Study Units (courses) of the Majors and Minors will be grouped under the Undergraduate Program Plan's ‘Specialisation’ group, for students to choose.

As the program administrator, you will need to set up the program structure for the Major and Minor.
You will also need to ensure that these are included in the “main” Undergraduate Program Plan for students to choose.
- Click on the 'RIO Challenge v4' tab at the bottom left of the page. Click on 'Initiate Challenge' to generate the data required for this challenge.

- From the App Launcher, search for ‘Study Programs’.

Select the list view ‘C02.07 - Study Program with Discipline Setup’. Click to open the record created for this challenge.
- RIO Undergraduate Program is a liberal arts degree. By navigating to the ‘Versions’ tab, notice that there are multiple Study Plans.

The ‘C02.07 - Undergraduate Program Plan’ is the “main” structure, which holds all the core and specialisation courses.
The other Study Plans are for the Disciplines (Major/Minor). These outline the structure for each Discipline (which courses are mandatory, and which are elective).
- The program administrator is finalising the Study Plan for the Major in International Studies.
Click on the Study Plan record ‘C02.07 - Major in International Studies’.
- Review the details for this Major.
Students will need to earn 48 credits from here.
Navigate to the ‘Configuration’ tab, and review its 2 groups: Core and Elective.
- Click to enter into the ‘C02.07 - Major in International Studies_Core’ group.
Notice that this group requires 32 credits for completion.
On the ‘Group Structure’ tab, review the list of Study Plan Structure (Unit) records.
These are the Study Units that make up this ‘Core’ group.
All these Units are required, and carry 4 credits.
However, notice that there are only 7 Units, so 7 x 4 = 28 credits.
Since this ‘Core’ group requires 32 credits, we need to add 4 more credits here.
- Click on ‘New’ to create a new Study Plan Structure (Unit).

Remember that this is a core course, which means it is a required one.

- With this Unit added, the Major in International Studies' ‘Core’ group now has enough credits.
While still in the same record, click on the ‘Study Plan’ field to return to the Study Plan for the Major in International Studies.
- From the Study Plan record, navigate to the ‘Configuration’ tab.

Click to enter into the ‘C02.07 - Major in International Studies_Elective’ group.
- Notice that this group requires 16 credits for completion.
Even though this is an elective group, the group itself is required.
- On the ‘Group Structure’ tab, create a new Study Plan Structure (Unit), to add another elective Study Unit.

Since this is an elective Study Unit, it will be optional.

- We have completed adding 2 Study Units (1 required, 1 optional) into the Major in International Studies.
Recall that Majors and Minors contribute credits to the Undergraduate Program.
Since we have added 2 Study Units to the Major, we need to add those 2 into the “main” Undergraduate Program Plan as well.
This is to ensure that whenever students complete a Study Unit from their Major/Minor, the credits will contribute towards the completion here.
- Return to the Study Program ‘C02.07 - RIO Undergraduate Program’.
You can do this by searching for ‘Study Programs’ in the App Launcher, and then selecting the list view ‘C02.07 - Study Program with Discipline Setup’…

OR
If you are still in the ‘C02.07 - Major in International Studies_Elective’ group record, click on the ‘Study Plan’ field.
Once you are directed to the Study Plan record, click on the ‘Study Program’ field.
- Once inside the Study Program ‘C02.07 - RIO Undergraduate Program’, navigate to the ‘Versions’ tab.

Click to enter into the Study Plan ‘C02.07 - RIO Undergraduate Program Plan’.
- Navigate to the ‘Program Structure’ tab, where you will find 4 groups.
The ‘Specialisations’ group contains the Study Units from all the available Disciplines (Major/Minor).
This ensures that when students complete a Study Unit from their Major/Minor, the credits will contribute towards the overall completion for the Undergraduate Program.
- Click on the ‘Configuration’ tab, and click to enter into the ‘C02.07 - Specialisations’ group.

- This group is required, and students need to earn 72 credits here (48 from Major + 24 from Minor).

On the ‘Group Structure’ tab, notice that all of the sub-groups are required, but need 0 credits to complete.
This is because students may only choose some, and not all of these Disciplines.
But regardless of which one they choose, they still need 72 credits, in order to complete the ‘C02.07 - Specialisations’ group.
- Click to enter into the sub-group ‘C02.07 - International Studies’.
This is where we will add the Study Units from the Major in International Studies.
Recall earlier that we have added 2 Study Units to that Major.
Thus, create 2 new Study Plan Structure (Units) here.

- You have now added both Study Units from the Major into the main Undergraduate Program Plan.
You may notice that 1 of the Study Units, IN204, was set as required in the Major's ‘Core’ group (as seen in step #7 earlier).
So, you may wonder, why is IN204 required in the Major, but optional in the Undergraduate Program?
This is because students may choose another Major, instead of this one.
IN204 is required for the Major in International Studies, but that Major may not be chosen in the Undergraduate Program.
- And with that, the Disciplines (Major/Minor) are set up in the Undergraduate Program.
All the Disciplines' Study Units have been added into the Undergraduate Program, as optional.
Students will not choose all of them, but, they will still need to take the required amount in order to complete the ‘Specialisations’ group.
- Congratulations, you have completed the challenge! Click on the 'RIO Challenge v4' tab at the bottom left of the page, and click on 'Complete Challenge'.
