Self-Paced Online Class
Overview
This article covers how a self-paced online class can be created in RIO Education SIS.
Use case
An education institution plans to offer self-paced online classes (also known as asynchronous) for students to:
- study at their own pace - no schedule, any time of the day.
- work on an assessment anytime, as long as they fulfill the deadline.
This might imply that students do not need to enroll into classes.
In this case, the usage of Sessions can be omitted from the setup. Only Course Offerings are used, as the students will only need to enroll into the Course. The usage of Faculty (i.e. lecturers) can be omitted as well.
Note: However, if the self-paced class requires the presence of a faculty, then the standard Session concept will need to be applied for the setup.
On the other hand, if the Faculty is not present in the self-paced class (i.e. there will be no lecturers), but they still play a role in the Course management, then, they are required in the setup.
Utilize the following setup (in this use case, the usage of Session is also omitted):
- Create a Course Offering for the student to enroll to.
The 'Course Delivery Method' will be set as 'Online - Self Learning', while a faculty will be set as the Primary Faculty (1-1 model).
-
Create a Course Connection for the faculty contact under the Course Offering (1-1 or 1-many model).
Note that a Course Connection will be provisioned for the Primary Faculty automatically.
- Set up a list view to be displayed within the community.
- Security access can be further fine tuned (own record view/other faculty can see other faculty records).
