Program Pathway
In RIO Education, Program Pathway is the recommended path a student should take to satisfy a particular Program requirement. Usually, each Program will have 2 Pathways, with each Pathway having a recommended Term duration to complete, and having its own set amount of Pathway Units allocated for each Term evenly.
Pathways are also optional, if a student does not take a liking to the Pathway, they are still able to enroll in Courses to satisfy the Program completion requirements.
For RIO University, its decided that 2 Pathways will be made for 2 Program Plans, namely Bachelor of Business Management, Bachelor of Business Information System. There will be a Full-time Pathway and a Part-time Pathway. The Full-time Pathway is suggested to be completed in 6 Terms, while the Part-time Pathway is suggested to be completed in 12 Terms.
The data will be keyed in as such:
Columns | Description |
Name | Name of Pathway. |
Number of Terms | The number of Terms recommended to complete the Pathway. |
Note | Description of the Pathway that can be displayed to the students at enrollment period. |
Study Mode | [ Full-time / Half-time ] Method of completion for the Pathway. |
Program Plan Ext ID | Specify the associated Program Plan. |
Enrollment Method | [ Manual / Automatic by Term-Course / Automatic by Course ] Method of enrollment used to setup Auto Enrollments. |
Pathway Unit
The Pathway Unit, which are essentially just Courses that have been marked as a requirement in order to complete the Program, are linked from the Plan Requirement Course and 'bundled' into the Program Pathway. Usually core main Courses are taken from Plan Requirement Course, and elective Courses are taken from a elective Plan Requirement Group.
To setup a simple example, let's take the Full-time Pathway for Bachelor of Business Management, which requires 6 Terms to complete, with a total of 240 credit hours. Thus, each Term will be planned out like this:
Term | Requirements |
1 | 4 Courses, 0 electives. |
2 | 3 Courses, 1 elective. |
3 | 2 Courses, 2 electives. |
4 | 1 Course, 3 electives. |
5 | 3 Courses, 1 elective. |
6 | 3 Courses, 1 elective. |
Total | 16 Courses, 8 electives (240 credit hours total). |
And with these data in mind, we fill fill the data template as such:
Note: Elective Courses are taken from Plan Requirement Group, so Plan Requirement Course Ext ID can be blank, while main core Courses are taken from Plan Requirement Courses, so Plan Requirement Group can be left blank.
