There is a set of core Courses that go along with the LPN program. At the beginning of the LPN Program, students can make an informal decision of whether to:
1. Obtain the basic LPN Certificate.
2. Obtain the basic LPN Certificate, but get a bit ahead on coursework as they are assuming they will eventually take the Associate-Nursing-Bridge program.
If students choose option 1, they can take BIO 105 and satisfy the BIO requirement for the LPN Certificate.
If students choose option 2, students will not take BIO 105, but will instead take BIO 111 and BIO 111-L in the first semester, followed by BIO 112 and BIO 112-L the following semester.
Note that BIO 111-L and BIO 112-L are the laboratory equivalent of BIO 111 and BIO 112, respectively. Thus, BIO 111 and BIO 111-L must be taken in the same semester, and BIO 112 and BIO 112-L must be taken in the same semester.
Additionally, BIO 111 and BIO 111-L are prerequisites for both BIO 112 and BIO 112-L. Thus, students take BIO 111 and BIO 111-L in the first semester, and then BIO 112 and BIO 112-L in the second semester.
How to best proceed with this? Either path the students take, they will still obtain the LPN License, it is just a matter of whether students know they will eventually go into the Associate-Nursing-Bridge program or not.
One more note: if students choose option 1, they will get 35 credits. If students choose option 2, they will get 39 credits.
For these, the simplest way to achieve this would be to create a different pathway for each approach, and the students get allocated or choose one of them. The reasoning is that while there are multiple BIO options that the student can take to satisfy the core BIO requirement for the LNP program, they are basically just choosing a different path that pre-loads some Courses earlier in the Program, and this can be achieved with the pathways without the need to set up a formal track (discipline).
When a student self enrolls they will see the options on what they "should" be enrolling in on the pathway based on the option they have chosen.
